Kuta II - Indonesia
4/30/05
This was not a very exciting day. We woke up late and spent the rest of the morning by the swimming pool at the hotel.
Around 1 pm we left to the airport to catch a flight to Sumatra. To get there we had to stop in Jakarta and get another flight to Padang.
We arrived in Padang around 9 pm and went to look for an hotel.
The city is very hot and the humidity is very high, almost unbearable. Some of the hotels we checked weren’t really clean and had huge roachers. As usual we stayed in a cheap one and probably shared the room with the insects while Flavien and Christian stayed in a different nice hotel nearby.
After we were set with the rooms, we went out for dinner. Padang has maybe the fastest fast food in the world. The restaurants have no menu and as soon as you seat at the table they will put in front of you a bowl of rice and a big variety of vegetables, chicken, meat and fish cooked with different sauces and curries, each one in a separate bowl. You pay only for the ones you pick. The other ones are put back in a big container and served to the next customers. Since you do not get cutlery to eat, you get a bowl of water to wash your hands after eating.
